In their ongoing efforts to support State and Local Maternal and Child Health Programs, the Association of SIDS and Infant Mortality Programs (ASIP) and the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP) are pleased to co-sponsor a series of quarterly webinars to strengthen SUID, SIDS, Infant Safe Sleep and bereavement services across the U.S.
The webinar format allows organizations to broadcast presentations in real time to attendees over the Internet. Participants listen to the speakers deliver their presentations in real time, and watch the accompanying PowerPoint slides on their screens, as if they were in a conference room together.
To broaden and extend the reach of the series, the organizers also capture the presentations as they are delivered over the Internet, and archive them on the pages linked below for interested parties to watch.
Live participants are able to submit questions over the Internet, with the speakers addressing each question for the audience. The Q&A is captured in some of the archived webinars, but not all.

The first webinar featured two internationally recognized experts on SIDS and SUID, Dr. Marian Willinger, who presented"The Role of the Postmortem Evaluation in Research Into SIDS" and Dr. Rachel Moon, who presented "SIDS and SUID: Celebrating Successes and Confronting New Challenges."
The second webinar featured two internationally recognized experts on the causes of SIDS and SUID, Dr. Henry F. Krous, who presented "Advances in SIDS Research," and Dr. Hannah Kinney, who presented "Serotonergic Deficiencies in SIDS."
The third webinar featured AMCHP's Director of Public Policy & Government Affairs, Brent Ewig, who walked the audience through the many opportunities for the SUID/SIDS community in the 2010 Health Reform Act, with a particular focus on improved coverage and benefits, and funding and program opportunities in Home Visiting and the Prevention and Public Health Fund.
The fourth webinar featured Dr. Eve R. Colson, Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Yale University School of Medicine and Director of Well Newborn Nursery, Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital, who presented insights gained from several years of studies, then took a long series of questions from the audience.
The fifth webinar addressed the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS), with two featured presenters: Letitia Williams, MPH, Epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the Division of Reproductive Health, and Danielle Broussard, MPH, PhD, Assistant Professor of Chronic Disease Epidemiology at Xavier University of Louisiana and the Chronic Disease Epidemiologist for Xavier's Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities Research and Education. The webinar also included a description of how eight states are using PRAMS data to inform SUID/SIDS/safe sleep program and policy development, as well as a Q&A session at the end.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) issued a new policy statement, SIDS and Other Sleep-Related Infant Deaths: Expansion of Recommendations for a Safe Infant Sleeping Environment in 2011. The AAP recommendations expanded from focusing only on SIDS to focusing on a safe sleep environment that can reduce the risk of all sleep-related infant deaths, including SIDS. In this webinar, leading infant death experts Rachel Moon, MD, and Fern Hauck, MD, MS, examine the expanded recommendations in depth.
