This site is the historical repository of the NCEMCH's work with the MCHB Research Program through October 1, 2002.

The MCH Research Program is part of the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and works to improve the health of mothers, children and adolescents by supporting important research that has the potential to improve health services and delivery of care for maternal and child health populations.

This extramural research program seeks to generate through grants support evidence-based knowledge that has practical application and immediate potential for improving health care services for mothers, children, and families. To be approved, applications requesting grant support to conduct research must demoonstrate originality, importance, regional and national significance, and scientific and technical merit. Applications are evaluated twice a year by an 11 member standing research review committee composed of experts from a variety of clinical and academic disciplines. Disciplines represented currently in the Committee are: pediatrics, Obgyn, perinatal epidemiology, bio-statistics, psychometircs, child development, cultural anthropology, and public health administration. Authorized by Title V of the Social Security Act, the MCH Research Program builds on 30 years of experience in supporting applied maternal and child health research and has over the years supported ground-breaking investigations which have influenced significantly clinical management as well as the ways in which health care services for mothers and children are organized and delivered.
